Author Lee Upton (Lafayette College)  speaks with Joyce Hinnefeld (Moravian College) about writing. Each author reads from their newest works, and they discuss their writing process.

Lee Upton is the author of fourteen books, including six books of poetry, short story collections, an essay collection, and volumes of literary criticism. She is a librettist as well as a poet, fiction writer, essayist, and literary critic. Her poetry has appeared in The New YorkerThe AtlanticThe New Republic, and in numerous other journals as well as three editions of Best American Poetry.   Her most recent fiction collection, Visitations, was listed by Kirkus as one of the “Best of the Indies 2017.” Her first collection of stories, The Tao of Humiliation, was selected by Kirkus for their listing of “The Best Books of 2014,” one of eleven books in the subcategory of short stories that included collections by a slate of celebrated international authors, among them Alice Munro, Paul Theroux, and Hilary Mantel. She lives in Easton, Pennsylvania and writes full-time.  Until recently she was the Francis A. March Professor of English and Writer in Residence at Lafayette College.

Joyce Hinnefeld is the author of the short story collections Tell Me Everything (1998; winner of the 1997 Bread Loaf Bakeless Prize in Fiction) and The Beauty of Their Youth (2020), the novels In Hovering Flight (2008) and Stranger Here Below (2010), and other short stories and essays. She is a Professor of English at Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA, and the founder and director of the Moravian College Writers’ Conference. Find her online at joycehinnefeld.com.
